JUL 2018 – 1 Mile – REDDISH VALE (STOCKPORT)

If you like what I am doing please click here to donate to my chosen charity.

Total Distance: ~1 Mile
Highest Point: 158 Feet
Total Realistic Time: ~0.5 Hours

The Reddish Vale Waterfall named ‘Harrison’s Weir’ was named after James Harrison who bought the manor of Brinnington in the early 1780’s.  At the same time he also acquired the manor of Reddish on the opposite side of the River Tame.  The two purchases also gave him control of the water-rights along the section of the Tame immediately north of Stockport.  Click here for more information.

As we live in the area of Stockport we thought we would go and explore, try to locate the Reddish Vale secret waterfall named Harrison’s Weir.  We have lived here for 15 years and only recently heard about the waterfall which is supposed to be nearby.

The waterfall is located not far from the Trans Pennine Trail opposite the Tesco Extra Superstore on Tiviot Way in Stockport.  You take the path to the very left after you leave the free car parking area, you should see a narrow path.  Keep following the path which runs along the River Tame, it does get very narrow with nettles and bushes but it does open up, you will then see a bridge to the left.  Follow the bridge across and you will hear the waterfall on the right after crossing the bridge.  Keep walking for about 300 yards and you will see the hidden waterfall nestled amongst the trees, that is Harrison’s Weir.

It is a pleasant short leisurely walk if you are around the area and the sun is out.
